Minutes from May 26, 2012 ILPOA meeting

President Larry Sills called this meeting to order at 11:10 A.M.  Following the pledge of Allegiance, roll call shows all Officers and Directors are present.  Membership count stands at 96.  (We need to contact our neighbors and ask them to join our association.  The annual dues are $20.00 per year.)

Mary Lou Wisniewski gave the Treasurer's report. A motion by Jim Weeden and seconded by Clare Hulett was approved.

Copies of the proposed ILPOA Handbook were on tables for our membership to review. After some minor corrections and additions the handbook will be available for the fall 2012 meeting.  The cost to prepare each handbook is approximately $10.00.  The Board decided to give a handbook at no charge to any member or new member who pays 2013 and 2014 dues in advance.  This would be a cost of $40.00 for the two years.  Otherwise the handbook will cost $10.00.

Three swans are being seen daily on the lake.  Not sure if they are nesting.  The DNR has asked that everyone refrain from feeding the swans.  They believe the problems the swans are causing are do to the feeding.  Five Wood Ducks, several Mallards, two Loons, two Bald Eagles, and several Feral Cats are being seen on and around the lake.

Fish beds aren't as plentiful this year.  People are being asked to refrain from fishing off the beds.  Also, please don't rake your waterfront until after the fish hatching is completed.  Any disturbance to the beds will kill new fish.  Two 20 inch Pike have been seen in the lake.  Several people would like to see the lake become Pike free.

Clare Hulett will be running the Island Lake Arts and Crafts Fair again this year.  Vendor set up will be on Friday with the Fair being on Saturday and Sunday of Labor Day Weekend.  Note: The vendors are Island Lake Residents.  If anyone is musically inclined and would like to share their music at the Fair they are encouraged to do so.

DSL isn't available from Frontier as yet.  The cottages on the north side of the lake can sign up with Hughes Net.  The south side of lake can't get Hughes Net because there is a lack of sites for the dishes.  M-33 Internet Service is available also.

Oak Wilt is still being seen in the area.  Please don't cut any trees or do any pruning that could damage any oak trees.  Oak Wilt attacks trees that have been damaged in any way.  It spreads to the root system of the tree and then attacks the other trees.  If you have any pruning or cutting to do you are asked to wait until the fall.  We were previously given information stating to prune after June.  We have found out from the Forestry Service and DNR that we need to wait until the fall.

Sadly, President Larry Sills, has accepted the resignation of Supervisor Plat Director Clare Hulett.  Clare was thanked for her service with a standing ovation.  Larry then appointed Jim Weeden to succeed Clare.
The appointment was approved.

Allen Meyer has Island Lake t-shirt decals for sale.

It was with great sadness that the deaths of the following current and/or former members of our association were announced: Mrs. Anne Martinus passed away in October, Chet Mijal earlier this spring, and Mike Ryalls six weeks ago.

We were made aware of some dogs on Kenesaw and Island Lake Drive that are allowed to run free.  They have been seen barking and growling at anyone who walks past them.  Note dog owners need to follow the leash laws.

Two break-ins took place on Dyer Rd.  The Neighborhood Watch signs in that area need to be replaced.  We get prices and possibly order a new sign.

Kathy Ryalls will be having an auction in June.  It will be at Auction Acres in Mio.  For more information call 989-848-5158.  Kathy has a boat lift available if anyone is interested.

Jim & Karen Duchaine, along with Mr. & Mrs. Arndt Weierstahl are new members as of this meeting.

Suggestions:  Make the handbooks with a larger binder allowing more info to be added.   E-mail handbook changes to the membership allowing them to update their own handbooks.  Hold a 50/50 raffle at our meetings to help fund the cost of the handbooks.  Notify non-members telling about our association and invite them to join us.

The trash pump is still available for use.  Non-members can use the pump for a cost of $25.00.  No charge to members.

Meeting adjourned at 11:52 A.M.

If anyone has questions about anything in the above minutes please contact Mary Lou by e-mail at cherry_bmj@hotmail.com or by phone at 989-893-2086.

2012 spring meeting

Dear Island Lake Property Owners,

The Island Lake Property Owners Association will hold their spring meeting on Saturday May 26, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Rose City.  The directors will meet at 9:30 a.m.

We had a relatively mild winter at the lake and a great spring.  I hope this is a prelude to the kind of summer we are going to have.

Plans are going well for the 4th of July boat parade as well as our third annual Island Lake Arts and Craft Show. The craft show will be held on Labor Day weekend on the corner of Dyer and Oak Roads.

The DNR has asked everyone on Island Lake to PLEASE STOP FEEDING THE SWANS.  By feeding them, they feel that we are contributing to the problem of the swans fighting.  I realize its fun to feed the swans, but it is not fun if it is causing them to kill each other.  Let’s stop feeding them this year and see if things get back to normal.

I look forward to seeing all of you at the meeting on Saturday, May 26.

Sincerely,
 Larry Sills
